Welcome to Stavanger, Norway
NORWAY

Norway is a very old country packed with history and tradition. Its heritage and tradition are now combined with a society of extremely contemporary amenities. There is a rich variety of things to do and see. White beaches that strech on forever. The magnificent fjords that wind inland between towering mountains. And we have the Pulpit Rock (Preikestolen), the most famous tourist attraction in Ryfylke, towers an impressive 604 metres over the Lysefjord.

Winter sports are particularly popular in Norway so there are numerous alpine resorts in Sirdalen, which is only one hour drive from Stavanger. Please see detailed information on www.regionstavanger.com

Practical information

The www.visitnorway.com and www.nyinorge.no publish useful information on beginning a life in Norway.
Climate
In Norway we have four seasons: spring, summer, autumn and winter. A combination of humid, westerly winds and the warming Gulf stream produces a much milder climate than would otherwise be expected in a country this far north.

What to do

Even the less energetic can simply marvel at the awesome beauty of much of the Norwegian countryside, with its countless steep-sided valleys, high mountain lakes and unbelievable views. There are opportunities to indulge in outdoor activities including skiing, golf, fishing and rock-climbing

Cuisine

Norway has a long history of fishing, although much of the high quality shellfish and other species caught off the coast are exported. However, fish remains a staple, along with meat, potatoes and other root vegetables, although tastes have altered in recent years to encompass wider international choices, Stavanger can boast some of the best restaurants in the country.

Housing

This cost of housing in Norway is generally high for several reasons: houses are of a high standard, fully insulated, with heating in all rooms because of the cold climate.

Work Permit

Most foreign workers need a permit to work in Norway. There are several types of work permit, but the most relevant one is: Migration as a skilled worker/Specialist.

As a citizen of the EU/EEA/EFTA, you can freely travel to and work in Norway as soon as you arrive. You can live and work in Norway for up to three months without having to apply for a permit.
